Brief on Dharamshala:
Dharamshala situated at a height of 4780 ft has a limited population of around 20000 people. It is a city in the upper reaches of the Kangra Valley and is surrounded by dense coniferous forests. The suburbs of the town includes –
McLeodGanj (6831 ft) – Also known as the ‘Little Lhasa’, it is the home of the DALAI LAMA
and the Tibetan administration in exile
Kotwali Bazaar (the main market of the town),
Kaccheri Adda (government offices such as the court, police, post etc.),
Sidhbari (Chinmaya Mission)
Connectivity: 1) By Air: The nearest airport at Gaggal, is also known as Kangra Airport or Dharamshala-Kangra Airport (2525 ft), a 45 minute to an hour's drive from Dharamshala. At present two daily flights from/ to Delhi is operated by Kingfisher Airlines. The other nearest Airport is Chandigarh which is about 240 Kms away from Dharamshala. 2) By Rail: The nearest broad gauge railway station is Pathankot(Punjab). It is about 90 Kms away and takes approx. three hours to reach Dharamshala. Pathankot is well connected to the rest of Northern India. 3) By Road: Many buses of all classes (deluxe, air-conditioned/ and regular) ply daily between Dharamshala and major cities such as Chandigarh(240 Kms), Delhi(500 Kms) & Shimla(330 Kms). The most suitable connectivity between Delhi & Dharamshala is an overnight journey by an air-conditioned Volvo bus costing about Rs. 1000/- per person.
Climatic conditions in september:
The Ramkatha will be taking place towards the end of the rainy season, temperatures during which varies between 18 to 27 degrees. It is suggested that alongwith umbrellas & raincoats, people carry cottons, light fleece & woolens.
Places of Interest:
Apart from the four Shaktipeeth of Chamunda Devi (15 Km), Jwalaji (53 Km), Chintpurni (84 Km) & Kangra Brajeshwari Devi (18 Km), the latest addition to tourist spots in Dharamshala is the magnificent Dharamshala cricket stadium. There is limited accommodation available in Dharamshala. Though the organizers will try their level best to accommodate the shrotas as to the best possible extent, looking to the limited availability it is advisable to book your accommodation in advance.

We may make it clear at this point that the organizers will not correspond on accommodation. They will simply make a note of your request and try to help/ accommodate at the time of Ramkatha.
